Translating subtitles is more than translating text
The usual route is to make Arabic subtitles and run the file through a translator. English is longer or shorter than the Arabic, the word order changes, and lines run over the screen or show up before the words are said. Viewers notice.
How Captionr makes English subtitles
Transcribed word by word
The Arabic speech is transcribed with a start and end time for every word, then corrected for your dialect, names and misheard words.
Translated in context
Each caption is translated with the surrounding transcript, so pronouns, jokes and references make sense in English.
Sized to be read
Every caption gets a length budget from how long it is on screen, so the English can be read in the time the Arabic is spoken.
Timed from the speech
Start and end times come from the Arabic words, not from the translation, so the English stays in sync for the whole video.
Every caption is checked before you see it
Captions that are too long or too fast are hard to follow on a phone. These limits are applied to every line of every video.
- 2 lines
- at most, of up to 42 characters each
- 1 to 7 s
- on screen for each caption
- 20 a second
- the most characters a viewer has to read
What you download
A standard SRT or VTT file. YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook and most video editors read it, and your captions appear in sync.

Questions creators ask
Which Arabic dialects can I translate into English?
Levantine (Syrian, Lebanese, Palestinian and Jordanian), Egyptian, Gulf, Iraqi, Maghrebi and Modern Standard Arabic. Levantine gets the most tuning today. Pick the dialect when you upload, or leave it at Not sure and we work it out from the speech. Levantine Arabic subtitles
Is the translation done by a person?
No. Captionr uses AI models to transcribe and translate, then checks every caption against fixed rules for length and reading speed. Automatic translation can make mistakes, so read your captions before you publish, and fix any line in the downloaded file. An editor inside the app is being built.
How do I get the best results?
Clear audio matters most. Use a microphone close to the speaker, keep background music low under speech, and avoid people talking over each other. Pick the dialect when you upload if you know it. Short clips with very little speech give the dialect check less to work with.
How long can my video be?
Any file up to 2 GB, video or audio: MP4, MOV, MKV, MP3, M4A or WAV. If your video is larger, upload the audio only; the captions come out the same. A one hour video costs $9.00. Read the upload guide
Can I put the English subtitles on YouTube?
Yes. Connect your channel and send the captions straight to your video from the video page, or download the SRT file and add it in YouTube Studio. Viewers turn the English captions on with the CC button. The same file works on Vimeo, Facebook and most video editors. Read the YouTube guide
