Upload a video

Who this guide is for

Creators who want to upload a video or audio file to get English captions.

Prerequisites

  • You are signed in.
  • A video or audio file (MP4, MOV, MKV, MP3, M4A or WAV) of 2 GB or less.

Step-by-step instructions

Where to find it: Videos › Upload video

Choose your file

  1. Select Upload video at the top right of the page.
  2. Drag your file onto Drop your file here, or click to choose, or select that area and pick the file. The file name and size appear.
  3. Check the Title. It is filled in from the file name; change it to something you will recognise later.

Choose the language and dialect

  1. Under Language spoken in the video, pick the language people speak in the video. Arabic is chosen for you.
  2. Under Dialect, pick the dialect, for example Levantine or Egyptian. If you do not know, leave it at Not sure and we work it out from the speech.
  3. Choose Detect automatically only if you do not know the language. We listen to the start of the video, so a video that opens with music or another language can be detected wrongly. Dialect is hidden when Detect automatically is chosen.

Upload

  1. Select Start upload. A progress bar shows how much has been sent.
  2. Keep the tab open until the upload finishes. If your connection drops, the upload picks up where it stopped.
  3. When the upload finishes, the page reads the length of your video and works out the price, then opens the video page.

Important: You can stop at any time with Cancel upload. Nothing is charged for uploading. You can change the language and dialect on the video page until you pay.

Expected result

The video page opens with the status Ready to pay and the step Price ready highlighted.

Common questions / troubleshooting

My file is not accepted. Only video and audio files can be uploaded, up to 2 GB each. Export a smaller MP4 from your editor, or upload the audio only.

The upload stopped with an error. Select Try again. The same video is reused, so you will not end up with duplicates.

I picked the wrong language or dialect. Open the video and select Edit in the Language panel, then Save. This works until you pay; after that the language is fixed.

People in my video also speak English. Pick the main language. Lines spoken in English stay in English in your captions.

I closed the tab during the upload. Open Videos, open the video and select Check again. If it says the upload has not finished, select Upload again.
