Find your videos and know how long they are kept

Who this guide is for

Creators who want to find a video they uploaded and know how long their video and captions stay in Captionr.

Step-by-step instructions

Where to find it: Videos

Find a video

1. Select Videos in the app menu. The page shows your videos as cards, newest first.
2. Each card shows:
   • a still image from the video. Audio files show a sound-wave picture. Until the still is ready, a camera picture is shown.
   • the length, in the corner of the picture.
   • the title.
   • the status, for example Ready to pay or Done.
   • the date and time you uploaded it.
   • Kept until and a date: the day the video and its captions are deleted.
3. Select a card to open the video's page.
4. If you have many videos, select Show more at the bottom of the page. It says how many are left.

Delete a video from the Videos page

1. Select the trash button on the video's card. A box asks Delete this video?
2. Select Yes, delete it to delete the video, its transcript and its captions. Select Keep it, or press Esc, to stop.

Important: The trash button is greyed out while the video is In line or Captioning. You can delete it once captioning has finished.

Know how long things are kept

1. The file you uploaded: deleted from our storage as soon as your captions are ready. You do not need it to edit or download your captions.
2. A video you never paid for, or one that stopped with Needs attention: the file is deleted 7 days after you uploaded it. After that, upload it again to caption it.
3. The transcript, translation, captions and still image: kept for 3 months after captioning. If a video was never captioned, they are kept 3 months from the upload.
4. On the Kept until date, the whole video is deleted and disappears from Videos.

Important: Download any captions you want to keep before the Kept until date. See the guide "Download your captions".

Expected result

You can find each of your videos on Videos, open it, and see the date it will be deleted.

Common questions / troubleshooting

I have no videos yet. The page shows Upload your first video with three steps. Select Upload video to start.

The card shows a camera picture instead of my video. The still image is not ready yet, for example while the file is uploading. It appears by itself.

Can I keep a video longer than 3 months? No. Download your caption files before the Kept until date; you can add them to your video at any time after that.

Why is my file deleted once the captions are ready? We only need it to make your captions. Deleting it straight away keeps your video private. Editing and downloading captions still work.

The video page says Deleted from our storage once captions were ready. That is normal. Your captions are not affected.

I did not pay within 7 days. Can I still caption the video? The file has been deleted. The video page says This upload has expired and Details shows Deleted from our storage after 7 days. Select Upload again to upload the file and caption it.
